This is the “Short Version” (just a little over 5 minutes long) of the Secret Smile Meditation. This meditation is originally part of our “7 Teachings” / “7 Principles” group program. However we have provided it here for all to benefit from!

This shorter version is a great way to start any spiritual practice or longer meditation.

It is called a “secret” smile, because these inner states of being will help you to smile all day everyday. People will wonder, what your “secret” for happiness is… When practised regularly, this helps you to embody these states of being through out your day. When practised before meditation, yoga or other spiritual practices, these will help you to quickly drop in deeper.

Overview

This is a guided meditation session designed to help you relax, cultivate positive emotions, and enhance your well-being. The secret smile meditation begins with deep breathing and progressive relaxation, encouraging the release of tension and the embrace of joy and love.

It progresses through visualizations of confidence, laughter, and electrical aliveness, each step aimed at evoking specific positive feelings.

You are guided to imagine scenarios that evoke pride, joy, and confidence, and to physically engage with these emotions through postures and actions.

The secret smile meditation concludes with bringing these sensations into the rest of the meditation and daily life.

Outline of the Secret Smile Meditation

Relaxation and Breathing Exercise

  • Robbie initiates the secret smile meditation by guiding participants to take three deep breaths and sigh, releasing tension and negativity with each exhale.
  • Participants are instructed to smile physically, starting from the back of their head and extending to their lips, to feel authentic joy and relaxation.
  • The focus is on scanning the body from the feet to the head, releasing any points of tension and maintaining deep, relaxed breathing.
  • Participants are encouraged to continue smiling and feeling the sensation of joy and love within their hearts.

Cultivating Love and Joy

  • Robbie guides participants to cultivate love and joy within their hearts by imagining a big smile within their chest and thinking of someone or something that fills them with authentic joy.
  • Participants are encouraged to rub their heart with their hand to increase blood flow and awareness, enhancing the sensation of joy and happiness.
  • The exercise includes thinking of beautiful memories or imagining cute animals to amplify the feeling of joy and love.
  • The importance of maintaining an authentic smile and feeling pleasant sensations in the chest and heart is emphasized for “homework” after this secret smile meditation

Building Confidence

  • Robbie transitions to building confidence by instructing participants to put their hands on their hips and adopt a confident stance, either standing or sitting.
  • Participants are encouraged to think of a genuine accomplishment that filled them with healthy pride, such as scoring a winning goal or closing a deal.
  • The exercise includes imagining oneself as a superhero, feeling confident and strong in a humble way, and experiencing a surge of confidence and joy.
  • The combination of confidence and joy, along with relaxed calm, is highlighted as a key aspect of the exercise.

Invoking Laughter

  • Robbie guides participants to bring their awareness to their belly and imagine laughter bubbling up, similar to bubbles from a soda can.
  • Participants are encouraged to laugh authentically, feeling goofy like a kid and imagining a big belly, moving back and forth with their hands.
  • The exercise includes feeling the effervescent bubbles and fiery energy coming up from the belly, enhancing the sensation of joy and laughter.
  • The importance of authentic laughter in filling participants with joy and energy is emphasized, along with maintaining confidence and relaxed calm.

Feeling Electrical Aliveness

  • Speaker 1 instructs participants to feel electrical aliveness running all over their body, emphasizing the sensation of life force moving through the body.
  • Participants are encouraged to rub their body with their hands to increase blood flow and electrical energy, feeling the connection and joy all over their skin.
  • The exercise includes imagining the effervescent bubbles from laughter and feeling joy in the heart, along with confidence and relaxed calm.
  • The focus is on bringing these sensations back to the center, continuing to smile into the heart and taking deep breaths to integrate these states into the meditation and daily life.

Secret Smile Meditation Transcription:

Beginning by taking three deep breaths and sighing On the exhale, making an audible sighing sound, and with each sigh, allowing yourself to relax into your heart, into your body, with each sigh, letting go of any tension, any negativity, allowing yourself to be fully present here in this moment and now smiling, physically smiling so you can feel this smile from the back of your head all the way to your lips, an authentic smile filling your face.

And as you smile, taking three more deep breaths and sighing into your heart, and as you sigh into your heart, allowing yourself to sink into your body, relaxing, feeling the beginning of joy and love within your heart. And so we’ll begin with relaxed, calm, scanning your body from the bottom of your feet to the top of your head, and feeling yourself relax…


releasing any tension, continuing to breathe deeply, sighing if you need to noticing any points of tension and letting them go now, feeling a deep sense of relaxed calm, continuing to smile, continuing to bring this sensation through your entire body, relaxation and letting go.


next, cultivating love and joy within your heart, physically smiling into your heart, imagining a big smile within your heart, thinking of someone you love, or a beautiful memory, thinking of that which fills you with authentic joy and happiness. It can be something or someone you’re grateful for. You can imagine puppy dogs and kittens jumping on you, whatever fills you with joy, if you’d like, you can even rub your heart with your hand, rubbing that place in the chest to help bring blood flow and awareness, continuing to smile authentically, and feeling joy, happiness And a pleasant sensation within your chest and your heart.

Next, we’ll move into confidence. So putting your hands on your hips, as if you’re the king of the world, opening your chest, having a confident stance, standing if you like, or sitting, whatever works, feeling confident. You can think of a genuine accomplishment that filled you with healthy pride, something that makes you feel confident. You can imagine yourself scoring the winning goal or winning a new competition, closing a deal. Whatever fills you with confidence, you can put one hand out like Superman, be like a kid. Imagine yourself like a superhero, confident and strong, like the most powerful human in the world, in a healthy, humble way, being confident, feeling that surge through your system, feeling underneath this confidence, joy and relaxed, calm.

Next laughter, remembering even fake laughter fills us with joy. So bringing your awareness down into your belly, into your sacral chakra, putting your hands there and having laughter bubble up, imagining like little bubbles from a soda can or a pop can going up from your belly as you laugh, laughing, authentically being goofy like a kid. You can also do it like that, imagining like a big Buddha belly or Santa Claus belly, moving back and forth with your hands, feeling those effervescent bubbles, that fiery energy come up.
Authentic laughter as best you can, coming back, feeling that surge of energy as you laugh underneath it, feeling confident, feeling joy in your heart and feeling relaxed, calm.

Next, feeling electrical, aliveness running all over your body, all over your skin. You can rub your body with your hands, if that’s helpful, bringing blood flow. And electrical energy through your body, feeling that electrical aliveness, that life force moving through your body, over the surface of your body, feeling that sense of connection joy all over your skin,

once again, feeling those effervescent bubbles from the laughter coming up, feeling joy in your heart, feeling confident and feeling relaxed, calm coming back to your center, continuing to smile into Your heart and taking three deep breaths and sighing into your heart to bring these beautiful sensations and states of being into the rest of your meditation and into the rest of your day.
