The Lonely Squirrel

I took my chair out into the woods… I like sitting and just being in nature.

After a while of stillness, nature always comes and checks on you.

Today it was a squirrel…

They aren’t used to humans being still and quiet.

He slowly made his way to the nearest tree…

Scuttling down branch by branch he inched closer…

Until he was about 6 feet away, eye level…

He looked at me right in the eyes, as if he was trying to tell me something.

A moment later, a bald man in a white t-shirt walked up to me… Remember, I’m alone in the woods, so this is a pretty random thing to happen.

I wonder if this is some destined encounter… about to change our lives forever.

We chit chat for about 20 minutes before he goes on his way. Nothing special…

At least not for me. Maybe it was for him, I may never know.

But we did share some good words, and I learned a few things about him.

It got me thinking about men… Here we are two solitary men in the woods.

A lot of men are solo. They don’t have close friends… In fact the majority of men lack the close male friendships…

This is a serious problem. It overburdens our intimate connections, and we miss out on the power of man friends.

A good male friend is a sacred thing… He’s someone you can laugh and cry with. And someone you can lean on when you need it.

Until I joined a men’s group, I was one of those men. I didn’t have any man friends close to me. At least none I felt a kinship with.

In our modern world, this is a need. Go out and find high quality male friends. Your life will only get better.

I’m starting a men’s group next month. It’s about cultivating deep connections, and creating a space where we can grow, learn and transform together.
