Most men never talk about this —
But a lone goose told me to share it.
Driving off from the Shire, the sun had just set… Standing in the middle of the road was a lone goose.
Headlights on full blast, I stopped dead in my tacks.
We stared each other eye-to-eye.
Then, slowly, he began to waddle straight towards me…
One foot after the next – he was fearless.
In classic 21st century style, I fumbled for my phone…
I caught a quick video, before I stepped out of the car…
He was still waddling his way, almost at my headlights.
I began to walk towards him…
We were almost neck and neck, then he flew off down the road…
A strange sight.
I felt the Creator’s presence in that moment…
He will often speak to us through signs, symbols and nature.
This lone goose was no different.
I’ve been reflecting a lot on him.
Sometimes in life, we’re meant to fly alone for a while.
But that doesn’t mean we should isolate.
A lot of men do that – they isolate themselves.
They become a lone goose…
Especially when life gets hard, or they make a mistake.
If you’re one of those men – This is an invitation to try a different way of life.
Cultivate meaningful friendships.
Find a men’s group.
Commit to male friendships.
Not just when times are hard, but also when they’re good.
Find men who you can celebrate life with, and who you can cry with…
Your future self will thank you.
