The last few weeks, my cat forgot he was a king… Then I realized he was teaching me something about purpose…
What he taught has stuck with me…
Moving into my new home has been a big transition… But not just for me.
Rumi has been slow to adjust…
Once a mighty warrior-shaman cat… The last few weeks he’s been more like your run-of-the-mill house cat.
At my old place, he was a King…
Prowling the land, killing mice, birds, squirrels, and even a mink…
Watching over the space, tracking energy, chasing off negative spirits and bad vibes…
He had purpose, and he thrived in it.
But coming here, he’s been lost, confused… Even a little wimpy.
Reduced to begging for food day in and day out…
Not a good look for a cat King.
My beloved Katie and I decided something needs to change (yes, I have a new woman in my life and she’s wonder-full…)
So we sat him down and gave me a stern talking to:
“you’re a king cat… We know you lost your purpose. So we are giving you a new one… You’re here to protect and watch over this home and this land… Work your magic, Rumi…”
He got up and walked outside.
He’s changed since that little chat… He’s stronger, happier, and more resilient.
He is going outside and exploring new horizons… Now when he begs I tell him he has to go outside first, or he’s not getting any food…
He’s bounced back into his full glory.
Rumi has taught me many lessons. This one is no different:
We all need purpose. Even a cat needs purpose.
Without it, we become weak, complacent, and prone to addictions…
We become domesticated.
It’s not a matter of “finding your purpose” but LIVING WITH PURPOSE.
Every second of your day…
Soon, the purpose you have been “looking for” will find you.
